About Us

Seeking Equality, Empowerment, and Community
For People with Developmental Disabilities

Who We Are:

SEEC is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization providing customized, community-based supports to help individuals with developmental disabilities achieve their unique version of The American Dream. People we support face the challenges of intellectual disabilities, autism, cerebral palsy and other disorders requiring support for daily living. SEEC staff provide assistance to help each person direct the course of his or her services towards attainment of personal goals for a well rounded life including, employment, education, leisure activities, good health, and friendships. All services are provided in the community and are individualized to meet each persons unique needs, desires and aspirations.
SEEC is comprised of more than 160 full- and part-time dedicated professionals supporting more than 150 men and women and more than 60 families of children with developmental disabilities each year throughout Montgomery County, Maryland. Our volunteer Board of Directors consists of family members of those we support, at least one individual receiving our services, and members of the greater community.

What We Believe:

Chris_Liles_at_the_bus_stop_1_1.jpgAt SEEC we believe that everyone, including people with severe disabilities, have the right to live and work in their community as contributing and valued members of society. It is the responsibility of professionals, families, and friends to advocate for and help people with disabilities to seek out a life of quality and substance. We believe each person is the focal point on which supports and opportunities are created as a highly preferred alternative to “one size fits all” programming. We believe that community inclusion gives  people with developmental disabilities the opportunity to show their abilities, develop new interests and talents, contribute to our workforce, and gain a sense of belonging. Their presence in all aspects of our community life changes public perception of people with disabilities from “needy” to “able” and promotes the realization of our commonality.

What We Do:

IMG_0175_1.JPGSEEC offers a variety of programs to help Montgomery County residents who have significant disabilities become involved and valued members of our community. Supports for community inclusion are provided through our three key programs: Community Living, Vocational and Recreational Day Supports. Supports and services are individualized to meet each person's unique goals and are delivered solely in the community.
