Montgomery County Transitioning Youth Roundtable

100_1151.jpgA group of local agencies, school system representatives, community volunteers, and staff of the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services met on October 1, 2008 to establish a work group to address the needs of transitioning youth in our county. The first meeting of The Montgomery County Transitioning Youth Roundtable provided a forum for all parties to discuss issues and improvements needed to prepare transitioning youth and their families for employment and life after the school years.

The group discussed ways educators can work with providers to improve job readiness for their students, and how provider agencies can communicate with students and their families to help them make the most of their school years. The Roundtable participants will work together to help students develop their interests, hone job skills, and network with community members to maximize future employment options.

Task forces were created to address specific issues, and their recommendations will be presented at the committee's next meeting in early 2009.
