Behavior Support Services

What Are SEEC’s Behavior Support Services?

Supporting communication, independence, and belonging

SEEC’s Behavior Support Services help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who experience behaviors that interfere with communication, participation, safety, or belonging. Using a person‑centered, positive behavior approach, Behavior Support Services focus on understanding the why behind behavior and teaching new skills that support independence, emotional regulation, and meaningful participation in daily life.

Behavior Supports are proactive and preventative, designed to enhance quality of life while supporting the person, their staff, and their broader support network.

Who are Behavioral Supports For?

Behavior Support Services support adults who:

• Experience behaviors that impact daily routines, relationships, or community participation
• Have difficulty communicating needs, preferences, or emotions
• Benefit from structured, skill based strategies to reduce stress or escalation
• Receive services across multiple settings (home, work, community) and need consistency
• Are transitioning between services, environments, or life stages
• Want support that emphasizes dignity, autonomy, and least restrictive approaches

What Do Behavior Support Services Look Like?

Behavior Support Services are individualized and collaborative. Supports are tailored to the person’s strengths, needs, history, and goals, and are developed in partnership with the person, their family (when appropriate), Direct Support Professionals, and interdisciplinary team members.

Services may include:

• Functional behavior assessments and observations
• Development of person centered Behavior Support Plans
• Teaching replacement skills and coping strategies
• Coaching and training for staff and caregivers
• Monitoring progress through data, observation, and collaboration
• Ongoing consultation and plan adjustments as needs change

The focus is on building skills, reducing reliance on restrictive practices, and promoting long term success.

  • Consistency across home, work, and community environments
  • Tools that help staff respond proactively rather than reactively
  • Support during transitions, increased independence, or changes in routine

Behavior Supports are designed to complement, not replace, other services, strengthening overall outcomes.
