Transition Services
What is SEEC’s Transition Services Department?
SEEC’s Transition Services department helps young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities seamlessly bridge to adulthood through person‑centered, community‑based experiences that build skills, confidence, and independence.

Who Are Transition Services For?
- People who are exploring next steps after high school
- People who are preparing for employment
- People who are connecting to adult disability services
SEEC ensures that young people and their families feel informed, supported, and empowered. Transition Services provide a clear pathway into SEEC’s lifelong network of person‑centered, community‑rooted programs.

Services
Pre‑Employment Transition Services (Pre‑ETS)
Pre‑ETS supports students ages 14–21 in Maryland and Washington D.C. as they explore careers and gain essential skills for the future. Students participate in small, in‑person groups focused on:
- Job exploration
- Workplace readiness
- Self‑advocacy
- Counseling on post‑secondary education
Through hands‑on, community‑based activities and the use of interactive technology, students discover their strengths and become familiar with SEEC’s array of supports as they move toward adult services.

Project SEARCH
Project SEARCH is a 10‑month school‑to‑work internship program for young adults with developmental disabilities. Interns gain real‑world experience through classroom instruction paired with rotational internships hosted by:
- Montgomery County Government
- Hilton / Embassy Suites hotels
- Local business partners
The Project SEARCH team supports interns and families at every step, ensuring a smooth transition from school to competitive employment including job development and ongoing support.

Services
Transition Services staff help each person identify their vocational interests and ideal conditions for employment through participation in classroom and internship opportunities. After the internship year, Employment Consultants continue to provide intermittent on-the-job support – adjusting the level and type of assistance over time to promote independence, skill development and workplace advancement while remaining a collaborative partner in long-term employment success.
